The Transformation of the Jonathan Swift Courtyard
The layout of the courtyard garden was not very inviting, there were no areas of special interest (other than a magnificant old tree) to attract the attention of the patients, nor were there any sheltered spaces offering individual or group privacy. The garden had not been maintained to a high standard.

Redesign of the layout was necessary. As it turned out, this would require significant shifting of soil and resurfacing of the outer path and the construction of new paths and sitting areas throughout. Work started in earnest in November 2005 and the official opening took place in May of 2006.
More pictures with details of the original courtyard, the work involved and the resulting garden can be found in this slideshow.
